Dating back to the 18th Century, One London Row is a characterful Grade II listed Purbeck Stone quarryman’s cottage, situated within the tranquil village of Worth Matravers, located in the Purbeck Hills. This cosy cottage is in the heart of the pretty village of Worth Matravers, a perfect location for a relaxing holiday, with its picturesque duck pond, outstanding scenery, and many stunning walks which can be enjoyed from the front door, including the wonderful walk out to the caves at Winspit Cove which is less than a mile away.
As you walk into the front door of the cottage, you enter the open plan sitting room & dining room, which has a spacious, yet cosy feel with traditional dining furniture, a Purbeck stone fireplace incorporating a log burning stove and an original inglenook exposed beam. There is comfortable seating, a colour TV, and a selection of boardgames stored in the sideboard in the dining area – great for a family games night! The dining table can seat six people, perfect for a family night in. With windows overlooking the front lawn and village green, and a stable door, guests can open up the top half of the door and watch the world go by. There is a room divider to separate the sitting and dining room, which is particularly useful on colder nights, as guests can snuggle down on the sofa with the fire on, keeping all the warmth in the sitting room.
From the living area, up one step, is a newly fitted spacious kitchen, which has a range of units, microwave and electric oven and hob. There is an undercounter fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washer dryer. There is a large breakfast bar which is ideal for enjoying a morning cup of coffee, whilst enjoying the sun shining in through the rear doors, which give access to an enclosed patio area, with a small table and chairs, providing a perfect spot for a quiet breakfast.
Off the kitchen, is a large, newly fitted bathroom, complete with a bath, large walk in shower, hand wash basin and WC.
Stairs from the dining area are typical of an older cottage and are twisting and steep and lead up to the main bedroom, which has a double bed, vintage dresser, and plenty of wardrobe space. The window overlooks the pretty front lawn and village green. The twin bedroom is spacious with two large windows, one overlooks the pretty front lawn and the other overlooks the garden to the rear of the property.
Also, upstairs is a WC with hand basin and a bright sun lounge, which is a great space to relax enjoying an afternoon cup of tea, reading a book or playing a family game. The sofa can pull out into a sofa bed which sleeps 2. There is a door which leads out to the large mostly paved garden, with steps down to the kitchen door or to the rear gate, which leads to the garage and parking bay and the village.
All upstairs rooms have some low sloping ceilings and original wooden ceiling beams, adding to the traditional cottage style.
The large paved garden is surrounded with Purbeck stone walls and has surrounding flower beds, bird table and stone sculptures. There is a ‘Stone Henge’ table and permanent seating area set within the stonewalls. There are foldable garden chairs and a BBQ in the garage available for guests use.
There is parking for one car in the garage and an additional space for one small car next to the garage.
The well-known Square and Compass pub is located just a short walk from the cottage and there are many exceptional coastal walks which can be enjoyed from the cottage’s front door including Winspit, Seacombe, Dancing Ledge and Chapmans Pool which are all less than 2 miles walk away and offer outstanding, breath-taking views. The villages of Kingston and Langton Matravers are less than a 2 mile walk and only a 5 minutes drive away.
The historic village of Corfe Castle is approximately 10 minutes’ drive with various traditional shops, a small museum, and the magnificent Steam Railway. Swanage is a great for a family day out, offering a wonderful sandy beach, waterfront amusements, a pier, and a choice of places to eat. The National Trust owned coastline at Studland Bay has a quiet dune-backed beach from where it is possible to take the chain ferry across to Poole Harbour to the upmarket resort of Sandbanks. My brother and I stayed at One London Row and had a wonderful time – so thank you. One London Row is a beautiful cottage in a fantastic location. The accommodation is really well laid out and has all the amenities that you could hope for to have a wonderful relaxing holiday – as we did! My brother and I are both over 6’ – so having the space – and the beds – in which to stretch out was lovely. The walking from footpaths literally just outside the front door, as well as one of Dorset’s best pubs about 500m away, made it a truly memorable stay. My brother and I have stayed in a number of the cottages you manage over the last several years – and indeed have booked already for next September. The prices are reasonable and your staff are always friendly and helpful – so thank you!
Sad to leave our favourite place in the world. Thank you for sharing the cottage – as always, we loved every minute!
Lost track of how many times we have come. Always wonderful, look forward to coming back!
